Blocks
#1
Here is a "blast from the past". The old N6? Arkanoid, Blocks. I have also included the executable (for those that do not have N6)

This was coded from a hard copy listing... Let me know if you find any 'random features'?

Enjoy.

Good one! No powerups, but it does go faster and the paddle shrinks later on Smile

Yes. The little beastie is quite nasty in that regard... lol

Oh. Looked at your game image and immediately thought of tilemap. Then the thought jumped to s3d and tilemap. I do not believe that it is a question of "Can it be done?" but one of "How can it be done?" It would certainly be an interesting twist on the game. Oh. Imagine... 3D Space Invaders; 3D Pong... An interesting way to inject 'life' into 'The Oldies'... Could be fun or a nightmare.... Moo Ha Ha Ha Ha...

Thoughts?

There's a 3d breakout in examples/games/, I think.

I like the mix of 3d and 2d in Darned Dungeon. It's a 2d game rendered in 3d, and it uses the NES color and palette limitations for sprites and tiles. I want to make some more games in that style. A shootemup or a platform game? I'm not sure. Maybe a roguelike?

N6 has some support for stone age opengl, but I prefer n7 with software rendering.

lol... Not suggesting the use of N6... After all, it's getting on in years and destined to line the halls of history... lol

N7 is the way to go... Had not thought of a 3D platformer in N7... Many moons ago I attempted a 3D platformer using Cube2. The combination of player movement and camera movement was almost nauseating... lol...

Quick question: Using 'blocks' as an example... Would you spend time 'converting' the original listing or would you use it as reference and build from scratch? Just curious...

I'd change the file extension to n7, start from the top and convert it "line by line". Once it compiles and runs I'd maybe refactor the code so that it takes advantage of n7 "stuff". Then I'd replace the 2d drawing with 3d to make things look cool Smile

I can give it a shot, and try to write comments that make sense, if you want!

That would be cool... but only if you have the time...

It didn't take much time Smile  This zip contains an n7 port (blocks.n7) of the n6 game (blocks.txt). The lines should match between the two files. It also contains a version where you can toggle 3d rendering with space bar (blocks_3d.n7).

The 3d is completely unnecessary, of course, nothing in the game takes advantage of it.
