The game logic in the original N6 code is full of valuable lessons. To understand it, I'm learning one part at a time. Here's my progress so far in N7 :

1. Scrolling tilemap and  generating path using polyline

2. Bonuses
Shoot bonus tile -> tile become sprite -> sprite falls -> player collects
Control keys : Left, Right

Next :
- More stages (tilemap edior)
- Boss level in different stages

Really cool!!! Impressed. I actually got shields! Lost them just as quickly... lol The joystick works very well. Actually a little 'too' well... Movement is slightly slower than the cursor keys... Very devious of you... Trading off speed for convenience... Nicely done!

Stage 2 - Demo is already a fully playable game. Shoot the enemies, avoid colliding with them, and collect bonuses. And just wait until you reach the boss level ! ( NB : I haven't created the boss level .... lol ) It's going to be hard to defeat the boss at the end of each stage - I promise ! ( NB : I haven't finished yet with all stages ... lol )

This space shooter is best played with a joystick rather than a computer keyboard. I'm a litle worried that repeatedly pressing the keyboard keys might eventually damage your keyboard.

So, this is just a little disclaimer for anyone who wants to play shooter games  Big Grin

Keyboards are sturdier than you might think... Back in the "8 bit days" I destroyed a joystick whilst playing Daley Thompson's Decathlon". To make him run faster the player had to move the stick left and right as fast as possible. Some of those foot races were quite long... I ended up refitting the stick with micro-switches... much better... but I digress..

If memory serves, I do not think N7 has a method of "detecting" the stick. I think an if/then/else condition to check for the number of sticks could be used... not 100% on that... but something like that...

So far the game is scrubbing up quite well... Looking forward to "the next phase"... Wink

Hi, Johnno.

Would you be interested in helping with the remake of *Space Pooper (N7)*?

If you have some free time, you’re very welcome to help create Stage 4 (the orange-themed stage). All the necessary files are included in `simple4.zip` if you’re interested.

What do you think?

    Stage 2 [file : 2.txt]
    Stage 3 [file : 3.txt]
    Stage 4 [file : 4.txt]
