Space Pooper (N7)
#21
It's just gone 11pm and I've downloaded the file... I will take a look at around 6am. It's been some time since I've used the tilemap editor... I will look at the other maps for reference... This will either be fun or a flop... lol Good night!

Well... It's almost 7:15am and I actually finished my first map... I went with a "pirate" theme... I found out a few things about map making... It was fun; Requires a LOT of imagination. (story-boarding instead of "on the fly" would have been better); I am not very good at this kind of thing... If you use it, be my guest to make as may changes as you see fit... Come to think of it... I don't know why I chose pirate... First thing that popped into my mind... Pirates. Space... What was I thinking...

I will attach the file just in case you still want to use it... *sigh*

Hi, Johnno
I just wanted to say that I really appreciate your help with creating the background tilemap for Stage 4 of the upcoming Space Pooper (N7) remake version.  You're truly a great artist, and I really admire your sense of "Pirate Theme" art and design. It's great to have your artistic touch as part of the remake.

You are too kind. I based it on previous levels but I didn't want it to be the same. As I stated before, it was done "on the fly" with little to know planning. "Artistic" is a way too generous... Yes, it was fun to make, but I haven't used the editor in such a long time. If you think it's good enough to use, then so be it... Glad to be of service.

The next project is a variation of Pong, right? lol

1micha.elok,

Interesting. Undecided as to whether or not to include a BOSS...

You do realize that you have painted yourself into a corner?

At the moment, each stage, is selected by the main menu... now this one of the rare times that I use a foreign language... Each stage repeates ad infinitum until one of two conditions are met. 1. The player reaches a predetermined score OR 2. The player defeats a Boss, to enable the player to advance to the next stage...

My suggestion... perhaps go with the predetermined scores to advance the stage... until the Boss issue is resolved... lol

The use of a joystick was brilliant... but it lulls the player into a false sense of security... All I had to do was hold down the fire button and "mop them up". Suggestion: Perhaps slow the fire rate or limit the ammunition (if limiting ammo then an ammo icon may need to be added). Another suggestion: Perhaps as the stages increase either increase the speed of the enemy or make them tougher by requiring more than one hit. Normally I do not offer SO many suggestions... It has to be the result of my first coffee!! lol...

Second use of a foreign language: Qapla' (Klingon: Success)

...

Thank you, Johnno, for your suggestions. I'll try my best to incorporate them into the code for Space Pooper (N7 version). Some I can do, but some I can't because they're a little beyond the limits of my brain intelligence...lol

Regarding the joystick issue, when the fire button is held down, it could potentially make it too easy to "mop up" the enemies. Perhaps this modified part of the code might address your concern :

Here is the modified UpdatePlayer(). The only change is adding the true parameter to joybutton which forces one shot per press, no holding allowed.

Code:
function UpdatePlayer()
...

    ' MODIFIED: joybutton 1 set to 'true' enables one-shot-per-press detection
    if (keydown(KEY_SPACE) or joybutton(1, true)) and ply.bulletTimer = 0 then
        if ply.bulletType >= 2 then
            AddBullet(plyBullets, bullet1, ply.x + (width(player)/2) - (width(bullet1)/2), ply.y, 0, -5)
            AddBullet(plyBullets, bullet1, ply.x + 2, ply.y, -1.5, -4.8)
            AddBullet(plyBullets, bullet1, ply.x + (width(player)) - 2, ply.y, 1.5, -4.8)
        else
            AddBullet(plyBullets, bullet1, ply.x + 2, ply.y, 0, -5)
            AddBullet(plyBullets, bullet1, ply.x + (width(player)) - 2, ply.y, 0, -5)
        endif
        ply.bulletTimer = 10
    endif

...
endfunc

Just a little sneak peek.
Something is coming to Stage 4. I'm adding a few more enemies ... and things are about to get a lot more difficult.
Be prepared for the next release of Space Pooper (N7) ... if you dare... lol !

Cool... One shot per click! Definitely a challenge for a joystick!

New enemies you say? Cool... Big Grin

BOSS LEVEL - DEMO

[Image: bnyo7.gif]

The game logic in the original N6 code by JSM (John Master) is full of valuable lessons. To understand it, I'm learning one part at a time. Here's my progress so far in N7 :

1. Scrolling tilemap and  generating path using polyline
https://naalaa.com/forum/thread-414-post...ml#pid2841
File : [simple.zip]

2. Bonuses
Shoot bonus tile -> tile become sprite -> sprite falls -> player collects
Control keys : Left, Right
https://naalaa.com/forum/thread-414-post...ml#pid2846
File : [simple2.zip]

3. Stage 2 - Demo
- Blue theme (stage 2)
- Joystick support
- Intense shooting, bonuses, bullets and poops

4. Stage Selection + Pirate Theme (Johnno)

5. Boss Level Only - Demo
