Help requested for running NED in Linux?
#1
Hi, I've decided that I no longer need Windows in my life Smile
So, I have installed Antix Linux, a Debian based distro, and I must say, I am very impressed so far. I've installed Wine, and NED is working fine, and I have been able to run N7 programs well.
However, I have one (so far) small problem. When keywords are used in NED, the cursor does not seem to move far enough, with the result that lines of code look to be over-typed - this is not the case however, as the code still runs fine.

Has anyone out there encountered this, or have any suggestions? Please bear in mind that I am very much a Linux newbie, so simple explanations would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks - Kevin.

Edit - it seems it's not just the keywords causing this, as when typing a comment for example, the cursor is still lagging behind the characters as they are typed.

Kevin,

I can remember way back when I first ran N7 on Linux Mint, I had a similar problem.

The problem maybe caused by using the wrong fonts. Maybe not wrong... You are running a Windows-based application on Linux. Linux is trying to use the closest font to make it legible.

My solution was to install the basic microsoft selection of fonts.

You are using Antix, a Debian-based distribution.

Open a terminal using F1 or Left-click the desktop menu then select Applications then select Terminal. You may have a choice of two terminals. Either will be fine.

In the terminal enter:   sudo apt install ttf-mscorefonts-installer. "sudo" will require your password as this command is going to change a section of your system. To do that, it needs your password. Agree to the licence prompt to install the fonts. When the fonts are installed, restart N7.

Installing the fonts worked for me. Let me know how you went?

Yeah, I think it's using Courier New, or is it Consolas? I don't remember Big Grin I'm on Linux too, most of the time.
